Cold Feet

There are plenty of ways to put some extra swagger into your daily routine (if you were wondering). Don't just dwell on the obvious. Instead, kick it up a notch with an stylish pair of socks. The industry has been putting much more emphasis on colorful designer socks in campaigns of late, even though it's a timeless trend.

"Socks are the foundation of the style that men choose to wear." Says Nic Haralambous, startup entrepreneur from Capetown, owner of nicsocks.com.

Nicsocks' are limited edition; when a design sells out, that's the end of the run. They are made from the finest 100% bamboo fibres and the design and manufacturing process takes place in South Africa. As the first online subscription sock store in South Africa, Nicsocks has broken new ground in Cape Town. Sock lovers have the option to subscribe to receive two pair a month, or buy pairs individually as they please.

Designs from left to right. Checkmate, pink panther, barbershop.

Traditionally, the color of your socks were to act as an extension to your pants. The rule of thumb was, when wearing dark colored bottoms, socks should be the same color as your bottoms or a darker shade. If you go with with bottoms on the lighter side of the spectrum, it was acceptable for socks to match your shoes instead. However we all know rules are made to be broken.

A fun fact is that in England, during the renaissance (14th to 17th century), colorful socks were a sign of nobility. Add your own twist to todays lay and notice the difference. Remember, the devil is in the details.
